We’ve been creating community through in-person video game events since 2023. NC Eclectic Esports was born out of a desire to create welcoming third places across the Triangle where everyone, no matter their skill, age, or identity, can feel included and have fun. Our events are perfect for gamers, families, and kids looking for safe and engaging experiences. As long as you can hold a controller, we’ll show you how to play.
Creating an Inclusive Environment
NC Eclectic Esports is a black, woman, and queer owned small business. We are deeply aware of how toxic masculinity, racism, and homophobia have been normalized in parts of gaming culture through imagery and language. That awareness shapes everything we do. We intentionally create video game events and spaces where people of all ages feel safe, respected, and welcome. Gaming is for everybody and we put real effort into making that true.
Why Playing In Person Is Better
Playing games in person is different. When you join one of our in-person video game events you’re not just logging into another online lobby. You are sharing a space with real people, laughing between matches, and building friendships that last beyond a single day. Research shows that people who play video games in person with friends report higher overall wellbeing compared with those who play alone or only online (Gallup, 2025). For kids and young adults, our events provide a safe, welcoming space to connect, socialize, and grow through a shared love of video games.
Keeping Esports Casual
When we say esports, we do not mean high-stakes tournaments, rankings, or pressure to perform. To us, esports simply means hosting casual, in-person video game events where people play together in a shared space with intention and structure. Our events are designed to be low-pressure and welcoming. There is no expectation to be the best in the room. Everyone, including beginners and kids, can drop in, play at their own pace, meet new people, and enjoy gaming as a social experience rather than a grind or a solo activity. Our events are a great option for families looking for fun, safe, and interactive activities for kids of all ages.
Ensuring Well Planned, Family-Friendly Events
Creating great in-person video game events takes more than just showing up with consoles. We’ve seen events where poorly structured activities, insufficient equipment, limited playtime, or untrained staff made the experience frustrating or unfun. That’s why we plan every event carefully. We make sure staff are prepared, equipment is ready, and there is enough time for everyone to play. We test all of our events to ensure they are fun, safe, and engaging for all ages including kids and young adults. We value your feedback and continuously strive to improve our events based on your suggestions.
