Event Description
Ready to brawl? Jump into Casual Chaos, a no-pressure Smash Bros. Ultimate hangout where you can play, laugh, and take it easy!
Play or spectate, hop in and out as you please, and try out a game you might not have at home. No matter your age, identity, or skill level you’re welcomed at our events – we’ll even show you how to play! Our event ensures everyone gets to play plenty, not wait forever, and play against people of the same skill level. We got cute, pink prizes for our top players and a plushie giveaway for our community. Come meet new people and enjoy some low-stress, Casual Chaos.
How the event works
CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER: Before 3:30 PM check-in to sign up for our Smash Bros. Ultimate casual competition. Paid ticket holders get a guaranteed player spot. We reserve 8 player spots for free ticket holders and more player spots might be available depending on attendance. Free ticket holders are not guaranteed a player spot, but you do get priority over walk-ins. After 3:30 PM paid ticket holders forfeit their player spot.
READY, GO: We will call your matches and tell you where to go. You will sit down and play in groups of three to four. At the end of your match, record what place you got on the scorecard given to you and report back to the organizers. Wait times between matches may be up to 20 minutes.
NEW CHALLENGER: Each match afterwards you will face people that scored similar to you. We’ll try to get as many rounds in as we can. Score high enough and you could win one of our top player prizes at the end of the event. For anyone not in the top four, we do a plushie giveaway as thanks for being a part of our community.
Silly Game Modes
Any of the following silly game modes may be picked randomly at the start of each round and each game mode lasts 4 minutes long. No game mode will be repeated. In the final round we will end with the Final Smash game mode.
Seasonal Game Mode
Each season we pull out a different game mode inspired by them.
Winter (December, January, February): Everything’s getting colder and the wind’s picking up.
Spring (March, April, May): It’s time to hop around and enjoy all the emerging greenery.
Summer (June, July, August): Everyone is spewing flames and the temperature is only going up from there.
Fall (September, October, November): The leaves are falling and the ground’s full of surprises ready to trip you up.
Bounce House
Get ready to fly around! Use bumpers and super launch stars to send your opponents flying into the stratosphere.
Final Smash
Pick whoever you think has the coolest final smash and be the first to fill up your smash meter!
Footsies
Every hit is a gamble with only 10 stamina to work with! Land a strike, but be careful, or someone else might catch you back.
Hot Potato
The bomb’s ticking, but who will it explode on? The game will spawn in sticky bombs that players can hurl at each other. Dodge, aim, and pass the bomb before it’s too late. Just don’t be the one caught holding it when it blows!
King of the Hill
Try and secure a precious 1-UP before your enemies can knock it out of your hands!
Minion Master
Assist Trophies are dropping! Grab them first, control the battlefield, and defeat your opponents’ assists for extra points.
Pokémon Trainer
There’s wild Pokémon everywhere! Grab all the poke balls you can and hope you get a master ball for one of those amazing legendaries.
Rampage
The bigger, the better! Start large and collect mushrooms to grow to gigantic proportions and crush your foes in this wild, destruction-filled battle inspired by the classic videogame Rampage.
Salute The Sun
Hotheads are your key to victory! Hit them to make them bigger, then use your character’s reflector or Franklin Badges to take control and set your opponents ablaze.
Smash for Ants
You’re the size of a ant and can barely jump! Try and knock your opponents off stage where they can’t recover, but watch out for mini-mushrooms that make you even weaker.
Additional Info
How we’re better than traditional tournaments or free play
Our event system uses the best of both traditional tournaments and free play with none of the drawbacks. Traditional tournaments give structure, but are stressful and people are eliminated quickly if they don’t know how to play well. Free play is less stressful, but without any structure people can be stuck waiting forever to play and skill disparities are unmanaged. Our system gives just enough structure so that everyone gets to play plenty and they get to play against people close to their skill level while no one is ever eliminated.

Physical Accessibility
Gizmo Brew Works – Durham Taproom has a nearby parking lot. It is located on the second floor and has an elevator on one side of its building.
Bathrooms
Gizmos Brew Works – Durham Taproom has separate male and female bathrooms with changing tables. There are no family, gender-neutral, or single-occupancy options. If you feel unsafe, let us know, and we’ll go with you to the bathroom you’re most comfortable using.
Kids and Young Children
We pride ourselves on being a family friendly place for all kids and their caregivers. We always make sure kids can have a great time by showing them how to play, setting up their controls, and matching them up with others who have the same level of experience as them. For caregivers, we offer a welcoming, low-pressure environment where you’re encouraged to relax, play alongside your kids, or just hang out. We know that caregivers come in all forms, parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, friends, chosen family, and we make sure everyone feels seen, respected, and included.

You agree that you will be held personally and financially responsible for any damage you cause either intentionally or accidentally to property belonging to the NC Eclectic Esports while attending this event. You agree to properly reimburse NC Eclectic Esports financially for the full replacement or repair cost, as determined by NC Eclectic Esports for any damage you caused to property belonging to the NC Eclectic Esports.
You agree to take responsibility for your safety and belongings by attending this event. NC Eclectic Esports may not be held liable for any incidents, including accidents, lost items, or disruptive behavior.
Legal guardians are responsible for their child’s safety and conduct, even if they attend alone. Any children 12 years or younger may not be left alone. Any concerns should be reported to staff immediately.
