Ready to race? Jump into Casual Karting — a no-pressure Mario Kart hangout where you can race, laugh, and take it easy!
Play or spectate, hop in and out as you please, and try out a game you might not have at home. With minimal wait times, no eliminations until grand finals, and prizes for the top 4, it’s the perfect way to chill, meet new people, and enjoy some low-stress, casual competition.
We’re serious about having fun — our events are smooth, welcoming, and we’ll show you how to play. All skill levels welcome!
Low sodium environment for casual gamers
No experience required, our casual competitions are a stress-free alternative to traditional Mario Kart tournaments. This event is focused on having fun and creating hilarious memories. Players will start in a Swiss bracket playing in groups of three to four across four tracks. Everyone will get to play multiple rounds until the end of the event. At the end of the event we will cut to our top players who will compete for prizes. Whether this will be your first time playing Mario Kart or you’ve been playing for years you are welcome here.
How the event works
CHOOSE YOUR KART: Before 2:30 PM check-in to sign up for our Mario Kart 8 Deluxe casual competition. RSVPing is not a guarantee of entry into the tournament, but you do get priority. There is a 24 player cap and it is first come, first serve. Come early to guarantee your spot!
3, 2, 1, RACE: We will call your matches and tell you where to go. You will sit down and play in pods of three to four with easy CPUS on 4 random tracks. At the end of your four person match, record what score (not place) you got on the scorecard given to you and report back to the organizers. Wait times between matches may be up to 30 minutes.
NEXT LAP: Each match afterwards you will face people that scored similar to you. Score high enough and you’ll make the cut to play for prizes at the end of the event.

- 150 CC
- Normal Items
- Easy CPUs
- 4 Random Tracks

Accessibility
Gizmo Brew Works – Durham Taproom has a nearby parking lot. It is located on the second floor and has an elevator on one side of its building.
Bathrooms
Gizmos Brew Works – Durham Taproom has separate male and female bathrooms with changing tables. There are no family, gender-neutral, or single-occupancy options. If you feel unsafe, let us know, and we’ll escort you to the bathroom you’re most comfortable using.

For caregivers, we offer a welcoming, low-pressure environment where you’re encouraged to relax, play alongside your kids, or just hang out. We know that caregivers come in all forms, parents, siblings, grandparents, extended family, friends, chosen family, and we make sure everyone feels seen, respected, and included.

All gaming setups provided. There is no room for extra setups, but feel free to bring your favorite controller.
